Edakkal Caves
The literal meaning of the word Edakkal
is a stone in between. There are two levels within the cave
which are located in the Ambukuthi hills. It is believed that the Edakkal
caves are formed by a large split in a huge rock. Once you are inside, you
are likely to be mesmerized by the ancient stone scripts, cave drawings and
the pictorial inscriptions present inside. It is believed that the carvings
of the Edakkal caves belong to the neolithic and mesolithic age. The place
is considered to be among the earliest centres of human habitations by the
archaeologists.
