Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary
The Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary covers a
portion of the Thodupuzha and Udumpanchola taluks of Idukki district. There
is a reservoir within the sanctuary which is formed by three dams,
Cheruthoni, Idukki and Kulamavu. The sanctuary itself is full of deciduous
and evergreen forests which provides a natural habitat to a variety of
animals such as wild boars, jungle cat, bison and elephants among others.

Feature Attraction
Idukki Arch Dam
It is the second arch dam of the world and it rises to the height of 550
feet. The construction of the dam was planned by a superintendent of the
Malankara tea estate who foresaw the potential of the place for power
generation.

When to go
The months between October to April are the best time to visit the Idukki
Wildlife Sanctuary.
How to get there
Kochi is the nearest airport from the Idukki National Park which is
132 km away. Kottayam is the nearest railway station which is 133 km away.
The place has extensive road connections with the rest of the state and
country therefore you can approach the place from any point in the country.

Believed to be the oldest church in Idukki, St Thomas Church in Idukki is
located about 8 km away from Thodupuzha. The devotees believe that the
original structure here was built by St Thomas himself.
» Annamalai Temple
The Annamalai Temple, which is about 1800 years old, is located about 3 km
from Thodupuzha and is built in the Chola style of architecture. The
presiding deity of the temple is Lord Shiva. It is one of those few temples
which still remains in its original form.
» Korikodu Bhagwathy
It is located opposite to the Annamalai temple and is dedicated to Goddess
Bhagwathy. It is a 460 years old temple and only Hindus are allowed to enter
the temple.
