Kappad Beach
The Kappad beach is located about 16 km
away from the Kozhikode town, and is a beautiful rock studded beach which
serves as a gateway to the Malabar coast. The Portuguese explorer Vasco Da
Gama along with his 170 men landed at the Kappad beach and thus created
history by discovering India. There is a pillar at the place which marks the
event of opening up of sea route for trade between Europe and India. It is a
calm and pleasant beach which still has an untouched look about it. Note the
sprawling rock on the beach which juts into the sea and has an 800 years old
temple on it.

Vadakara and Quilandi. If you are going from Kochi, take the
National Highway 47 to Edapally, afterwards take National Highway 17
to Kozhikode via Ponnani and Feroke.

The Temple on the Rock
There is a rock on the Kappad beach which juts into the sea. There is an
800 years old temple located on this rock. While you walk up to the temple,
you feel the depth of religious feelings of Indians which manifests itself
in myriad forms in every corner of the country.

The Karipur International Airport is the nearest airport which is about 23
km away from Kozhikode. Kozhikode is the nearest railway station which is
about 16 km away.
