Kovalam Beach
Located 16 km south of Thiruvananthapuram
in Kerala, Kovalam, today, is an internationally renowned beach located on
the Malabar coast of Kerala. There was a time when Kovalam was only a sleepy
little village but the picture has changed dramatically today. The place has
become a favourite hangout of the tourists which has been made all the more
attractive by a massive rocky promontory that has created a little calm
water body just right for bathing in the sea. The place also provides you
with whole lot of leisure options such as swimming, sun bathing, herbal body
massages and catamaran cruising among other activities. Your typical life at
the beach begins late in the day and goes on till late into the night.

- Route from Connanore/ Kochi : If you are going from
Kollam to Thiruvananthapuram, you'll have to take the route via

The months between September to March are the best time to visit the
Kovalam Beach.
How to get there
The nearest airport from Kovalam is the Trivandrum International Airport
which is 14 km away. The major domestic and international carriers connect
the place with all the major international and domestic airports. The
domestic carriers operate regular flights between Thiruvananthapuram and
Chennai, Bangalore, New Delhi and Mumbai. The Thiruvananthapuram Central
Railway station is the nearest railhead which connects the place with rest
of the country.

» Samudra Beach
This is yet another attractive beach of Kovalam, though we'd advise you to
avoid the monsoon season as the beach is covered by water at that time.
» Shri Dharmasastha Temple
Located close to the beach, the temple attracts numerous visitors during
the annual festival held in January, every year. The devotees are allowed to
visit the temple on Fridays and Aayilam days according to the Malyalam
calendar.
» Vizhinjam Village
Vizhinjam village is about 2 km away from Kovalam town and is famous for
its cave temple and the marine aquarium. The temple has unfinished carvings
of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi whereas the marine aquarium displays
elements of marine life.
