Munnar
Munnar has given a new name to the sleepy
hill stations of south India by mesmerizing the tourists with the stunning
natural beauty of the place. Also known as the Kashmir of south India, the
place is also known for its abundant spice and coffee plantations which make
it a picture perfect destination for the tourists. Located at the height of
6000 feet, the place used to be a popular summer getaway for the British in
the colonial days which is easily understandable looking at the scenic
natural beauty of the place. Munnar is also a popular centre for the
paragliding enthusiasts. Other activities popular among the tourists are

Feature Attraction
Marayoor
Located on the outskirts of Munnar, Marayoor is famous for the discovery of
stone age civilization relics here. The place is also known for its tribal
culture. Other attractions of the place are the lush cardamom and coffee
plantations. Marayoor is the only place where you can see the natural
Sandalwood forests which are of very high quality. The place also has a
children's and a deer park.

When to go
Since Munnar is a hill station, it experiences cool weather throughout the
year. Even in the summer months you'll need some woolen clothes. The months
from September to May are right for visiting Munnar. That means you just
have to avoid the monsoons here otherwise you can visit Munnar throughout
the rest of the year.
How to get there
Kochi is the nearest airport and railway station from Munnar which is about
130 km away. Munnar is easily accessible by roads from any part of the state
as well as Madurai and Coimbatore which are located in Tamil Nadu. .

» Matupetty Dam
It is located about 12 km away from Munnar on the way to Top Station. The
eye catching sights at the place are the grass mounts of the Indo
Swiss project, the wide variety of trees and plants. It is quite a sight to
behold the elephants roaming in the thick forests.
» Echo Point
About 18 km away from Munnar on the way to Top Station, the Echo Point is
located amidst thick forests near a lake. The place derives its name from a
natural echo phenomenon which takes place at Echo Point.
» Top Station
It is located on the border of Tamil Nadu and Kerala at the height of 1700
meters and is 33 km away from Munnar. The place is also famous for its
Nilakurinji which blooms only once in 12 years.
» Rajamalai
Rajamalai is famous for being the site of Eravikulam National Park and is
12 km away from Munnar on the way to Marayoor. The highest peak of the
region, Anaimudi, is also located here.
