Thrissur
Thrissur is named after Lord Shiva and it
is a thriving cultural and tourism centre of Kerala. Various rulers such as
Zamorins, Tipu Sultan and Europeans have shaped the destiny of the place
though it is said that Thrissur attained the present state of importance
during the reign of Raja Rama Varma, also known as Sakthan Thampuran.
Thrissur is renowned everywhere for its Pooram festival as well as numerous
popular shrines.

The Cochin International Airport is the nearest air link which is 58 km
away. Thrissur is an important railhead in south India and is connected to
many south India cities by regular trains. Thrissur is well connected with
the major cities by a good road network as well.

» Anakkayam
About 20 km away from Chalakudy, the place is famous for its lake and
soothing environment. It is said that Anakkayam got its name from a herd of
elephants who used to frequent the place regularly. The lake is extremely
beautiful and, the rocks and silent streams add to the beauty of Anakkayam.
» Art Museum
Located within the Zoo compound, the Art Museum has a good collection of
the wood carvings, metal sculptures and ancient jewellery. The place also
has an attractive collection of traditional Kerala lamps.
» Athirapally and Vazhachal Waterfalls
Located near the entrance of the Sholayar forest range, the beautiful
Athirapally and Vazhachal waterfalls are just five km apart from each other.
» Guruvayur
Thrissur is just right as a place of stay if you are going for a pilgrimage
to Guruvayur which is about 32 km away. It is also known as the Dwarka of
South India. It is said that the Shree Krishna Swamy Temple here was created
by the Guru, the preceptor of the Devas and Vayu, the God of the winds.
» Peechi Dam
It is an irrigation project site where boating facilities are also
available at the reservoir. Now if you are also able to spot some tuskers on
the banks, consider yourself lucky. The Peechi Dam is located at the
distance of 23 km from Thrissur.
