Trivandrum
Once a part of Travancore, Trivandrum is
an ancient city with its tradition going back to 1000 BC. This peaceful city
is spread across seven hills and is like many others cities of India all of
which have an older portion whereas the modern portions are coming up in
other locations. The city is also called the gateway to Kerala and is among
the cleaner and well planned cities of India. The place affords you a unique
insight into the culture of Kerala. The environment of the city is filled

Even if you are not from India, you can easily reach Trivandrum directly as
the place has an international airport. Other major cities of India such as
Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai and Kochi are also connected by air with Trivandrum.
All the important destinations in Kerala and rest of the country are well
linked by railway network with Trivandrum. The road network connecting
Trivandrum with other major cities such as Kochi, Alleppey, Chennai and
Bangalore is quite extensive.

» Shree
Padmanabhaswamy Temple
Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, Shree Padmanabhaswamy Temple at Trivandrum is
considered as very sacred by the Hindus since ancient times. The temple
complex is huge with a tank besides it for taking the ceremonial dips.
» Vizhinjam
Vizhinjam is an ancient port which was the site of Dutch and Portuguese
commercial establishments. Located about 2 km away from Kovalam, the place
is now being developed as a fishing harbour.
» Kanakakunnu Palace
Located right in the heart of Trivandrum, the Kanakakunnu Palace is an
architectural marvel. Many attractions of the place, such as the Napier
Museum, Natural History Museum and Sri Chittira Art Gallery among others are
located in the palace complex.
» Kanyakumari
Located at the southern tip of the Indian sub continent, Kanyakumari is
famous for its temple which is dedicated to Goddess, a form of Shakti. The
place also has a memorial of Swami Vivekanand . Swami Vivekanand meditated
on a rock here off the coast.
