Varkala Beach
Varkala is a small town which is located
46 km north of Thiruvananthapuram. The beauty of the long stretch of beaches
here still retains an untouched feel which is difficult to find elsewhere.
The two main attractions of the Varkala beach are the Janardana Swamy temple
and a nature centre. The place also has several mineral water springs which
are famous for their medicinal value of the water. The Varkala beach in kerala itself
is an isolated sandy stretch which affords you a very tranquil and relaxing

Thiruvananthapuram and New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Bangalore. The
international airlines connect the place with major airports across the
world. The nearest railway station is Varkala which connects the place with
the rest of the state and country. Since the Varkala Beach is just 16 km
away from the NH 47, therefore the place is easily accessible by buses as
well. You'll have to get down at Kallambalam and then get local buses or
auto rickshaws to reach Varkala beach.

The best place to watch a sunset, the Papanasam Beach has got the name
because it is believed that bathing at this beach washes away all the sins
of those taking a dip here.
» Janardana Swamy Temple
This is among the most prominent pilgrimages in Kerala. This temple is
dedicated to Lord Ayappan and Hanuman. It is because of this temple that the
place is often called the Kashi of the south India. The non Hindus are not
allowed in the temple.
» Sivagiri Muttsivagiri Mutt
It is a religious site founded by Sree Narayana Guru, the well known
philosopher and reformer of Kerala. The Sivagiri pilgrimage generally takes
place between 30th December and 1st January.
